The Dolores Star encourages people to submit announcements about upcoming events for the Community Calendar. Send announcements to news@doloresstar.com. Items submitted at least two weeks in advance will have a better chance of getting published; items submitted several days before the event might not get published. Arts and Crafts Sale

Arts and crafts sale will be Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Priest Gulch Campground located on Highway 145 at mile marker 35.

Emergency preparedness seminar

On Wednesday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. the Dolores Public Library will be hosting an emergency preparedness seminar. The County Health Department, County Sheriff's Office, Montezuma County Fire Chiefs Association, and American Red Cross will give short presentations and answer questions to help you prepare for wildfires, pandemics, and other disasters in our area. There will be information for kids, literature you can take home and door prizes. Similar presentations will be offered in Mancos and Cortez later in July. Eat out for the Bridge!

July 19, Friday, is the day and night to eat out for the Bridge Emergency Shelter. Participating eateries will donate a portion of their proceeds to the shelter. Grab some friends and plan to eat out early and often in Cortez at: Addison's, Antonio's, Burger-Boy, Cold Stone, Domino's, J Fargo's, Jack & Janelle's, Koko's, Nero's, Ocean Pearl, Once Upon a Sandwich, Pepperhead, Pippo's, Pizza Hut, San Juan Coffee, Shiloh Steakhouse, Silver Bean, Sonic, Spruce Tree Espresso, Stonefish Sushi, Tequila's, The Farm, and White Cup Coffee. These eateries in Dolores and Mancos are also participating: Dolores Food Market, Dolores River Brewery, Ponderosa, Rio Grande Southern, Riverfront Bar and Grill, Absolute Bakery, Chavalo's, Fahrenheit Coffee, and Olio's Fine Food. In addition to the City of Cortez we have four banks sponsoring A Night Out: Citizen's State, Dolores State, First National, and Vectra.

Concert season tickets

Season tickets for Southwest Colorado Concerts 2013-2014 season will be on sale at the Cortez Farmers' Market July 20, beginning at 7:30 a.m. This season begins Oct. 6, 2013 with the San Juan Symphony performing Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica at the Montezuma-Cortez High School Auditorium. The German a cappella male quintet Vocaldente performs the second concert on Nov. 12. Concert pianist Charlie Albright, winner of the prestigious 2010 Gilmore Young Artist Award, performs the third concert on March 3, 2014. The 26-member Golden Dragon Acrobats performs astounding feasts of skill and daring on May 3, 2014, to finish the season at the Cortez Middle School au ditorium. Season tickets for the 4-concert season are $45 for adults and $10 for youth 18 years old and younger. Season tickets also may be purchased from any Southwest Colorado Concerts board member or by mail using the flyers available at the Cortez Public Library and Cortez Recreation Center. Presbyterian Church Rummage Sale

The Presbyterian Women will hold their "Back to School" Rummage Sale on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2 and 3. It will be held in the fellowship hall of the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church at 350 S. Washington in Cortez from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be household goods, books, clothing, glassware, appliances, plants and a children's room.

Proceeds go to the P.W. mission projects.

DHS Class of 1993 20-year reunion

The 20-year reunion for the Dolores High School Class of 1993 will be held Saturday, August 10 at 6 p.m. at the Rio Grande Southern in Dolores. K-9 SAR pancake breakfast

The K-9 Search and Rescue Team will again be sponsoring their Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, August 10, at Escalante Days. Based in Dolores, K-9 Search and Rescue Team Inc. is a non-profit organization with no tax base that depends solely on donations, grants, and fundraisers for support.

The annual pancake breakfast is the team's largest and only major fundraising event of the year, featuring a hot cooked breakfast for a small donation.

Money from the pancake breakfast help purchase and update vital equipment, and maintain basic operational readiness for when the Team is needed. More importantly, it helps the Team to maintain the ability to offer their services free to the lost or missing.

Methodist lunch, sale

The Dolores United Methodist Church will hold its annual "Navajo Taco Lunch, Crafts, Pie/Baked Goods, and White Elephant Sale" this Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave., Dolores. The Navajo taco lunch is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.
