Running as an unaffiliated candidate, Cortez-area native Larry Don Suckla won a seat on the Montezuma County Commission for District 3. Suckla had 5,324 votes to 4,627 for Dwayne Findley. Greg Kemp, another unaffiliated candidate had 1,606 votes.
Findley won the Republican primary in June.
In the Dolores School District Re--4A,Voters easily approved the 3C bond issue. The vote was 1,415 voting yes and 808 voting no.
In the 3B bond issue, voters in the Montezuma-Cortez School District overwhelming voted to raise property taxes in order for a new high school to be built in Cortez The final unofficial totals were 5,106 voting yes and 3,070 voting no.
For 3A, a mill levy increase for the Mancos School District the vote was 1,042 for and 684 against.
In state races, Republican Scott Tipton won a second term in Congress, defeating Democrat Sal Pace. Republican Don Coram was an easy winner in House District 58, and Amendment 64 cruised to an easy win. The amendment now legalizes small amounts of marijuana.
