Mancos resident and teen, Easton LaChappelle went to Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, Calif. to tape an episode of a Nickolodeon show where a panel of guest had to try and figure out what the Mancos resident had done to get on the show. The answer: invented a robot-controlled glove.

In last weeks Mancos Town Board meeting, the board discussed the demolition of the roundhouse in Boyle Park. The total cost to demolish it is $2,665. However, the board would like to see the building repurposed instead of torn down. Town administrator Tom Yennerell said, I think the town would be remiss if they took it down without trying to do something with it. We may find somebody who wants to buy it; we may not.

Red Ribbon Week was celebrated the week of Oct. 22 through Oct. 25 at the Dove Creek School District. Red Ribbon Week is the nations oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. The focus of the celebration is to educate individuals, families and communities on the destructive effects of drugs and the positive life choices available.

The lawsuit opposing the Verizon tower on Log Hill is still percolating in the Colorado Court of Appeals. Plaintiff Andrew Fisher, a Log Hill property owner, sued in 2009 to stop the proposed tower that now stands out near Inspiration Point and is visible from Highway 62. Defendant Dallas Creek Water Company, owner of the land where the tower sits, contracted with Verizon to erect it.

The number of students in the San Juan School District has climbed by 133 students in the past year, with much of the growth driven by enrollment gains in the Montezuma Creek-area schools. In the past year, the Arizona Department of Education determined that they would no longer provide education for students from Utah. The Red Mesa Schools are near the Arizona-Utah state line and have been serving students on both sides of the line. As a result of the change in policy, scores of students who were attending school in Red Mesa are now attending schools in Montezuma Creek.
