John Ninnemanns photography is one of the newest displays at the Raven House Gallery in Mancos. Its an interesting combination of black and white photos, color and digital photos that he has taken over the years. But his interests dont stop there. Ninneman is the quintessential Renaissance man, dabbling in not just photography, but music, teaching, biology, writing and the study of ancient astronomy. He spends his summers as a naturalist guide for Off the Beaten Path, an organization that offers travel experiences, and serves on several boards. He loves the community of Mancos.
The thing that has really piqued his interest in the last few years is the ancient astronomy in this area. He has spent several winter solstices in the canyons of Chaco Canyon, observing and photographing the sunrises and sunsets that occur there. He believes that the sun, in its cycle, rises and sets over certain places where the Ancients built.

The Dolores County School Board hired Todd Beanland as the new transportation director at the Nov. 8 board meeting. The sudden departure of Larry Funk was not discussed.
Superintendent Bruce Hankins said that Beanland had the shop in immaculate condition and had the County grade the yard around the bus barn. He said he gave Beanland credit for 18 years of experience because of his work at Dove Creek Implement. Hankins said the Ernie Williams has been helping smooth the transition.

Steve Stone of Ridgway was visiting his son, daughter-in-law and grandson in Montrose on Saturday when he received a call from Deputy Marshal Jeff Hunt informing him the Walchle Ranch guest house, his home, was on fire. Stone and his son, Austin, jumped in his truck and headed south.
When they arrived at the duplex, located a few miles east of US 550 on County Road 12, the structure was still burning. A shake shingle roof under a tin roof prevented firefighters from accessing the burning attic. Stone, his son and several firefighters went into the building to retrieve what belongings they could. Stone, a photographer, was especially appreciative to have saved his computer, which continues to safely store the majority of his creative work.
