Congressman Scott Tipton (R-CO) encouragea people to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24. Tipton, who chairs the House Small Business Subcommittee on Energy, Agriculture and Trade, is a cosponsor of a House Resolution (H. Res. 793) expressing support for the designation of a Small Business Saturday and supporting efforts to increase awareness of the value of locally owned small businesses.
Small businesses are responsible for the creation of 7 out of 10 new jobs (on average) in this country, and are vital to our economic recovery. Small Business Saturday is a great way to get a jump on holiday shopping while supporting these community businesses, stimulating the local economy, and strengthening Main Street, Tipton said. For small business owners that wish to participate, there are free marketing resources available through the Small Business Administration to help spread the word and encourage people to shop local.
