Free Zumba and Yoga
Free adult Zumba and Yoga classes every week in the County Annex building on North Chestnut. Exercise in air-conditioned comfort. Improve your health and exercise your mind and body. These classes are ongoing from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with Zumba on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and Yoga on Tuesdays. Attend as few or as many evenings as you like. Beginners are always welcome so bring a friend or come and make new friends. Come join the fun! These classes are hosted by The Piñon Project through a grant from the Colorado Health Foundation. Free cholesterol screening
The Montezuma County Public Health Department is offering free cholesterol screening for residents of Montezuma and Dolores County through their Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions program. Screening includes finger-stick blood sample, blood pressure reading, height and weight reading, and guidelines for a good cardiovascular health. Results are immediately available. Storytime in July at the Cortez Public Library
“Jive into July” is the July theme of Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library, located at 202 N. Park St., Cortez, CO. Storytime is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the library and every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Cortez Farmers Market on the corner of Elm and Main streets (weather permitting) for preschool-aged children. Older children are welcome to join us for the craft at 11:15 a.m. on Thursdays. The Raising Readers Storytime offers songs, stories, crafts and silliness and uses the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative Program.

Lighthouse Christian Academy registration
Lighthouse Christian Academy, a ministry of Lighthouse Baptist Church, is now accepting registration for kindergarten through 12th-grade students for the 2013-2014 school year. Halos Youth Choir comes to Cortez Public Library
The Halos Youth Choir from Dove of the Desert U.M.C., in Glendale, Arizona, will be coming to the Cortez Public Library on Wednesday, July 10 at 2 p.m. They will perform their Pops Concert entitled: “Bring the House Down.” This is part of the Family Entertainment Series of the “Dig into Reading” Summer Reading Program season. Back Country Horemen Meeting
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, July 11 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in Durango. Social time will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7 p.m. Guests are always encouraged to attend.

Computer Classes in July
The Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., Cortez will offer computer classes in July.
On Thursday, July 11, at 1 p.m. the Cortez Public Library will be holding a computer class called Basics II. This class will cover: documents, folders, drives, saving and printing documents.
On Friday, July 12, at 1 p.m. staff from the Workforce Center will be holding a class at the Cortez Public Library on finding a job. The class will be focus on various aspects of finding a job on the Internet and using the Workforce Center.
On Thursday, July 25, at 1 p.m. the Cortez Public Library will be holding a computer class on Internet Searching. Subjects covered will include: World Wide Web, URLs, Links, Web Browsers, Toolbars on Web Browsers, Address Bar, Simple Searching Tips and Techniques.

Football Camp

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary #5231 will hold their July meeting on July 11 at 7 p.m. at the Post Home, 36 Grand Ave., Mancos. Dolores Methodist lunch, sale
The Dolores United Methodist Church will hold its annual “Navajo Taco Lunch, Crafts, Pie/Baked Goods and White Elephant Sale” on Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside. The cost of the taco lunch is $7 for adults ad $5 for children 12 and under.
Golf Tournament
Four Corners Builders Association hold its fundraising golf tournament July 13 at the Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez. This is a four-person shamble. The fee is $40 each, including lunch and range, not included cart or green fees. There will be optional purchases of mulligans and pro shots. New this year prizes for closest to pin, longest putt, longest drive and cash prize for hole-in-one. Sign-up is 7-8 a.m. Shotgun start is at 8:30 a.m. A lunch will follow the tournament during the awards/prizes on the patio at Conquistador. Hole sponsorships are aveilable for $100. A tour of the malting barley (dryland and irrigated) test plots at the Southwestern Colorado Research Center will be held on Monday, July 15, from 4 to 6 p.m.. Southwest Memorial Hospital will hold an old-fashioned pie auction on Tuesday, July 16, at 11:30 a.m. in the hospital cafeteria. This is a benefit for the Cure for Cancer Relay for Life team. Insurance exchanges explained
Colorado is a leader in creating a healthcare insurance exchange program for its residents under the Affordable Care Act. The program is scheduled to begin accepting applications Oct. 1, 2013, for coverage to begin Jan. 1, 2014. Learn about the application process and the various plans that are available for you, your family and/or your employees at the Chamber luncheon on Wednesday, July 17, at noon at Shiloh’s Restaurant. Kent Helwig, CEO of Southwest Memorial Hospital, will explain how the exchange will work in Colorado and in Montezuma County and discuss assistance that will be available to help people navigate through the application process.

SouthWest Colorado Concerts season tickets
Season tickets for SouthWest Colorado Concerts 2013-2014 season will be on sale at the Cortez Farmers’ Market July 20, 2013 beginning at 7:30 a.m. This season begins October 6, 2013 with the San Juan Symphony performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Eroica at the Montezuma-Cortez High School Auditorium. The award winning German a cappella male quintet Vocaldente, which has wowed audiences throughout Europe, performs the second concert on November 12, 2013. Concert pianist Charlie Albright, winner of the prestigious 2010 Gilmore Young Artist Award, performs the third concert on March 3, 2014. The 26-member Golden Dragon Acrobats performs astounding feasts of skill and daring on May 3, 2014 to finish the season at the Cortez Middle School auditorium. K-9 Team Hosting Annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
The K-9 Search and Rescue Team will again be sponsoring their Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, August 10 from 6 a.m. onward. Located at 35 Railroad Avenue in Dolores (next to the Dolores Fire Dept.), K-9 Search and Rescue Team Inc. is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization that is on-call 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, regardless of weather conditions or circumstances, to assist local, state, and federal agencies in the search for missing persons. The Annual Pancake Breakfast is the Team’s largest fundraiser and is held during August, and features a hot cooked breakfast for a small donation. The funds from the Pancake Breakfast help purchase and update vital equipment, and maintain basic operational readiness for when the Team is needed. 15th Annual Harvest Beer Festival
Sample microbrews from eight regional breweries at the foot of Mesa Verde in beautiful Cortez, CO. Saturday, September 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. This year’s festival will feature music by Cortez’s very own Beautiful Loser Society. Food vendors will be on hand and there will be children’s activities.
