A police response to a possible stabbing west of Durango caused a temporary lockout Friday afternoon at Animas High School.
Durango police Cmdr. Rita Warfield said authorities received a report about 12:30 p.m. of a stabbing that happened about 45 minutes earlier at the Westwood Apartments off U.S. Highway 160, west of downtown Durango.
As a precautionary measure, law enforcement contacted AHS, which is about a mile west of the apartment complex, to go on lockout.
Warfield said police arrived at the Westwood Apartments and found a female victim with minor injuries. She ultimately did not need to be transported to a hospital for further care.
Warfield said investigators are looking for a person of interest who left the scene, but she declined to release a name.
“We are still in the middle of trying to investigate further to see what happened ... and piece together all the reports,” she said.
Warfield said the lockout at AHS was lifted around 1:20 p.m.
Libby Cowles, assistant head of AHS, said everyone at the school was safe. “We’re now proceeding as normal,” she said.
