Bagge receives national award for doctor rating
Dr. Douglas R. Bagge, of Southwest Health System, has received the 2015 Five Star Excellence Award from Professional Research Consultants for scoring in the top 10 percent nationally for Overall Doctor Rating, based on 2014 data.
Bagge attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed his residency at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. He is board-certified through American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has worked with Southwest Health System since 1995.

Permaculture Convergence scheduled for May 23
The 2015 Colorado Permaculture Convergence in The Four Corners on May 23 will feature speeches by Katrina Blair of Turtle Lake Refuge, Ken Surritte of Water Is Life on the World Water Crisis, Joel Glanzberg on The Permaculture Mind, and Neil Bertrando on High Desert Permaculture.
Subjects also covered include: Introduction to Permaulture, Drip Irrigation, Fruit Tree Grafting, Rocket Mass Heaters, Orchard polyculture, Drought Proofing, Compost Tea, Community Food Forests, Wild Edible Identification, Earthworks Backhoe Lessons, and Mushroom Cultivation.
Dinner on Saturday, May 23, will be catered by Turtle Lake Refuge, and Blue Coyote will pay classic rock and roll.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Hananiah’s Rest Ranch, 10501 Road 20, Cortez. Programs begin at 10 a.m., and the closing address is scheduled for 5 p.m. on May 24.

Southwest Resource Council meets May 8
The Bureau of Land Management’s Southwest Resource Advisory Council will meet Friday, May 8, at the San Juan Public Lands Center (15 Burnett Court, Durango).
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. and is open to the public. The public comment period is at 11:30 a.m. Individuals who want to make a statement during the public comment period should register with the BLM by sending an email to sborders@blm.gov by Wednesday, May 6. Speakers should submit a written copy of their statement at the meeting for the administrative record.
Careers Camp deadline extended to May 11
Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center has extended the registration deadline for the Second Annual Health Careers Camp for area teens to Monday, May 11.
The camp, at Fort Lewis College June 9-12, is open to students entering grades 8–10 for the 2015-16 school year.
The cost is $150, and scholarships are available. Students may to explore fields within the healthcare industry and wil gain hands-on learning activities including the application of sutures, checking for vital signs and learning CPR.
The camp will provide information about the requirements for a degree or certification in a health profession, and information about financial resources for students.
