Thank you, fans of poetry and the written word in Cortez and beyond! The Poetry Corner Presents success was because of the support, loyalty and enthusiasm of all of the generous donors; each and every member of each and every audience, the media who gave us thorough and multitudinous coverage and, last but not least, the gifted and talented poets who came here from all over the Four Corners and the US of A. This is a thank you to all of you. After 3 1/2 glorious seasons and more 50 unforgettable poets, we were honored and thrilled to bid our fond farewell with an evening with world famous Sandra Cisneros as our final guest poet. And it was glorious!! There was a standing-room-only crowd of 195. Sandra mesmerized us with her reading as she wove her words with humor, poignancy and drama. We felt as though we were all connected.
Throughout the series we have included a culturally diverse mix of poets with varied types of performances from slam poets to love poets to poets that tickled your funny bone. They were all fascinating to listen to, to watch and to meet. We offered workshops, discussions and readings. And because of our generous and wonderful donors, we have been able to offer this at no charge. Now that The Poetry Corner Presents has come to a close, Im hopeful that our series has inspired someone to write a poem, to read a poem, to check out a poetry book, to attend a reading, to remind someone to do the same. And hopefully a seed has been planted and we will witness poetry readings sprouting and blossoming throughout the land where we live. Thank you for the opportunity to encourage, excite and promote poetry for people of all ages and to elevate and appreciate the poem.
