Pet of the Week

Pet of the Week

There’s more to love of this big marshmallow named Thomas, who is at the Cortez Animal Shelter, hoping for a home. He’s a real mamma jamma and has been de-clawed, so he will need to go to an indoor-only home. An adult neutered male, this gentle giant is a white shorthair with orange tabby markings, and turns some heads due to his size — 12 pounds — although he’s not fat. Thomas is a really sweet, loving guy. The shelter has many other beautiful, social adult cats available, as well as a lot of adorable kittens, including a slim black kitten, a white one with peach-colored ears and tail, a black and white tuxedo, an orange tortoiseshell, and two weaned blue-eyed lilac-point Siamese kittens and their beautiful mother, who also got dropped off. One of these loving critters would make a great addition to a home, and these lonely pets really need a cuddle and a chance. Please Don’t Litter — there are many low-cost options available for fixing your pets to stop the endless cycle of homeless animals in Montezuma County — call the shelter for options available locally. The shelter is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on alternate Fridays. They will be closed this Friday. They could use donations of non-clumping cat litter, plain bleach, liquid laundry soap, paper towels, dish soap, and large-size rawhide chews — the homeless dogs really look forward to working on one each afternoon. All pet adoptions at the shelter now include having the new addition to your family fixed and microchipped. For more information, call the shelter at 565-4910. To view more animals, visit www.petfinder.com or www.petango.com (enter 81321 zip code for each) or www.cityofcortez.com/government/animal_shelter.
