The Dolores School Board of Education made it official Tuesday night and voted in favor of placing a bond on the Nov. 6 ballot.
The bond will by known as Measure 3C and those that live inside the Dolores School District boundary will be able to vote on it.
The ballot question will ask voters to approve a $3.471 million bond that will in turn allow the district to collect $2.618 million from the Building Excellent Schools Today fund, which will allow the district to tear down the failing science/vocational education building and build new classrooms for those purposes. In addition, the money will go to adding classrooms to the elementary school and remodeling the locker rooms.
If passed, home owners would pay about $34 a year for a $100,000 home.
In the meantime, the campaign committee, with the slogan Strong Schools/Strong Community, continues to meet every Tuesday at 4 p.m. inside the Ponderosa Restaurant.
Campaign signs have been ordered and the committee plans on knocking the doors of area voters late next month.
The Montezuma Economic Development Board contributed $2,500 toward the committees effort to pass the bond. And the Dolores Rotary Club has donated $820 toward the effort.
In other action, Chris Majors reported on the school financial audit and said the Dolores School Districts budget looked really good.
There are very few districts that had a fund balance increase, Majors said
Majors commended Business Manager Karen Andrews on her job.
I have had many conversations with Karen on whether a nickle was relevant. She says they all are, he joked.
In addition, board members and principals discussed that the school year has so far ran smoothly and the students are happy about the school year.
