Flea market at old hardware store
The old hardware store on Main Street will be open for a Community Indoor Flea Market on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your own table(s). The fee is $10 per table for the two days.
Boyle Park flea market happens again
A community flea market will again be in Boyle Park on Sunday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bring your own tables and set up anywhere but the parking lot. There is no charge and no parking on the grass.
Musicians are encouraged to entertain.

Storytime starts at Mancos Library
The Mancos Public Library, located at 211 W. First St, will start Little People Storytime on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at MPL. Children ages 3-6 will be taught songs, verses and stories with the changing of the seasons emphasized. A craft is also offered. Free! For more information please call the Library at 533-7600.
Film to be shown at library
Mancos Public Library presents a screening of the critically acclaimed film, Precious Knowledge on Thursday evening, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. in the meeting Rroom at MPL.
At Tucson High School, ethnic studies programs have improved graduation rates among Latino students. But some state politicians think ethnic studies promote racial solidarity and anti-Americanism. When books are banned and the programs eliminated, teachers and students fight back in a modern civil rights struggle.

Film about Woody Guthrie presented at library
The Mancos Public Library presents Hard Travelin: The Life and Songs of Woody Guthrie by Colorado author, teacher and performer Daniel Blegen on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Mancos Public Library meeting room.
2012 is Woody Guthries centennial year, a great time to remember this humble Everyman. In Hard Travelin, Colorado author and performer Daniel Blegen discusses Woodys life and sings his songs. This unique, one-hour lecture/mini-concert includes Woodys Dust Bowl Ballads, his songs of the West, and his tributes to Americas farmers, factory workers and service men. Included are tunes like Hard Travelin, Roll on Columbia, Union Maid, The Sinking of the Reuben James, So Long Its Been Good to Know Yuh, and, of course, This Land Is Your Land.

DOW has Hunter Safety Class
On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 9, there will be a Hunter Safety Class at the Mancos Community Center, 130 Grand Ave., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fee is $10, and the class is for ages 10 and up. Limit 45 people per class first come, first serve. The class is offered by Steve Nowlin of the Division of Wildlife. For more information, call 882-7627. No reservations.
Teen writing group to start
Local writer Suzanne Strazza in partnership with the Mancos Public Library, will be leading a writers group for teens ages 13-19. This group will meet at the Mancos Public Library, located at 211 W. First St., every Wednesday from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. The first meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 12. No prior writing experience is needed. There will be no homework or required writing for this class; it is merely to explore ideas and how to get them onto paper. For more information, please call MPL at 533-7600.
Medicine Horse plans volunteer training
Looking for a great way to spend your free time this year? The Medicine Horse Center needs volunteers for our therapeutic riding sessions in Mancos. We are planning a Volunteer Training Thursday, September 13th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for anyone wishing to participate. Horse experience is welcome, but not necessary. Well teach you everything you need to know. New volunteers are always welcome!

Library cinema opens with Half the Sky
Mancos Public Library opens this season of Community Cinema with Half the Sky, which will be shown on Sept. 13, in the meeting room at MPL at 7 p.m. A discussion may follow.
Half the Sky is a film by Maro Chermayeff, Jamie Gordon and Mikaela Beardsley. It follows celebrity activiists America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union and Olivia Wildeas they travel to six countries and meet inspiring, courageous individuals who are confronting oppression and developing real, meaningful solutions through health care, education, and economic empowerment for women and girls. Iron Jawed Angel to be shown
Mancos Public Library offers a screening of the film Iron Jawed Angel (Golden Globe Award 2005) on Thursday, Sept. 20 in the meeting room of MPL at 7 p.m.
Director Katja von Garnier employed slow motion, harrowing images and rock music to turn a quaint period piece into something relevant and righteous. Anyone who thinks about staying home on Election Day ought to be made to watch the scene where Hilary Swank, as the feisty suffragist Alice Paul, is force-fed by prison guards trying to end her hunger strike. Be a part of wellness in Mancos
The Mancos Health and Sustainability Festival is going to be Sept. 28 and 29, to share, teach, demonstrate or motivate people at our festival. Promote your business while the balloon festival is happening in our front yard.
We are still looking for people to play music, sell healthy foods, teach yoga classes, poi demonstrations/classes, face painting, henna tattoos, pottery, chair massage, acupuncture, writing workshops, solar demos, composting demos, gray water collection systems, gardening, intuitive readings, local farmers and foods, clothing exchange, drumming and anything else.

Teen Computer Club at Mancos library
The first Wednesday of each month at 5 to 6:30 p.m. teens will meet in the Community Meeting Room at the Mancos Public Library to work on various computer projects. All meetings will have hands on experience with digital devices, disassemble, build, etc. At times we will have regional computer geeks visit.
