The Dolores Town Board voted unanimously to support the Dolores School Districts bond issue, which will be on the Nov. 6 ballot.
The board of trustees believes that educating the next generation is the responsibility of every generation that preceded it, and that every effort should be made to ensure that our students are prepared for the workforce of the 21st century, the resolution stated.
Board members voted Monday in favor of Measure 3C, which will ask voters to approve a $3.47 million bond in order to receive the $2.62 million BEST grant.
If approved, the school district will use the money to replace the science/vocational building, add classrooms and enclose the connection between the elementary school and the commons area. Money will also be used to remodel the locker rooms.
The existing school complex has legitimate deficits and safety concerns in its aging infrastructure including the locker rooms, lack of connectivity for the youngest students between their classrooms and the computer lab and cafeteria and a compromised science/vocational building, the resolution states.
If 3C is not approved by local voters, the matching BEST grant money goes to another district.
The Board of Trustees encourages its citizens to vot YES on 3C.
Meanwhile, the bond committee continues to meet every Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Ponderosa Restaurant and will meet at the restaurant tonight to begin handing out support signs to residents.
