Weber Fire Tour of East Canyon presented by FireWise of SWCO
Wondering whether wildfire mitigation makes a difference? See the difference it made for residents and firefighters when the Weber Fire entered East Canyon earlier this summer. Art opening at Olio
This Friday, Oct. 6 two artists will be welcomed to Olio. Their art will be on display for the public to view. They are Mark Montgomery and Barbara Grist. The reception this Friday is from 4 to 6 p.m. and their art will be there from Oct. 6 through Nov. 3. Olio is located at 114 W. Grand Ave. in Mancos.
Yoga Wednesdays at Kaleidoscope
Community yoga with Amy Hartline is at 5:30 to 6:30. The fee is $5.
Gentle yoga basics with Keneen is at 9 a.m. to 10:15. Yoga all levels with Keneen is at 10:30 a.m. to noon. The first class is free and drop ins are $12.
Calling all instruments!
Do you have woodwinds or brass instruments stored in a closet? The Mancos Band students will put them to good use! Can you spare a half hour in the afternoon to provide private instruction to a sixth grade band student? Thanks to Sylvia and Julie who have taught flute and trombone. Storytime starts at Mancos Library
The Mancos Public Library will continue with Little People Storytime on Wednesdays at 10a.m. at MPL. Children ages 3-6 will be taught songs, verses and stories with the changing of the seasons emphasized. A craft is also offered. Free! For more information, please call the library at 533-7600.
Teen writing group meets on Wednesdays
Local writer Suzanne Strazza in partnership with the Mancos Public Library, will be leading a writers group for teens ages 13-19. This group will meet at the Mancos Public Library, located at 211 W. First St., every Wednesday from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. No prior writing experience is needed. There will be no homework or required writing for this class; it is merely to explore ideas and how to get them onto paper. For more information, please call MPL at 533-7600.
Free yoga classes
Keneen McNiven, D.C. will be starting regular yoga classes at Kaleidoscope Wellness on Wednesday mornings on Oct. 3 for beginners and intermediate yoga practitioners. McNiven, a healer by nature, has had a successful 25 year career as a chiropractor and nutritionist. Her love of health, healing and transformation has now brought her to an exciting second career utilizing yoga as a vehicle for not only physical healing and pain relief, but also for profound and personal awakening on all levels. Library has outdoor adventure program
The Mancos Public Library presents Outdoor Adventures at the Mancos Public Library, a no child left inside, place-based, experiential education inspired after-school program. This program has been developed by a team of educators, biologists, artists,outdoor recreation specialists, and librarians who believe kids need an opportunity to explore, build, hike, create and work together in a kid centered community in the outdoors. Although supervised by adults, the activities will be derived by the interests and passions of the kids. Children ages 9-12 are encouraged to enroll. Each child must be able to walk/hike two miles over mildly rough terrain in all weather. A healthy snack will be provided. The cost is $20 for the entire length of the program and scholarships are available. From 3:45 to 5:30p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, kids will get together. (Schedule follows the Mancos school district calendar.) The first session will be on Thursday, Oct. 4. Teen Computer Club at Mancos library
The first Wednesday of each month at 5 to 6:30 p.m. teens will meet in the Community Meeting Room at the Mancos Public Library to work on various computer projects. All meetings will have hands on experience with digital devices, disassemble, build, etc. At times we will have regional computer geeks visit.
