It may cost Dove Creek $10,000 for a cross walk from the Post Office to Dove Creek Auto Parts. Town Manager Irvin Frazier said that Department of Transportation engineer Rick Routh brought two of his colleges form DOT over to explain the situation. Because of the hill coming up out of the creek to the east, Routh has determined that a cross walk would require user-initiated flashing LED lights. When a pedestrian prepares to cross Highway 491, there will be a button on a post and the walker can notify traffic that they are about to attempt a crossing. Routh told Frazier that the equipment will cost $10,000 and DOT personnel will install it free.

According to Bob Larson, a consultant with Monadnock Mineral Services, the project will kick off by excavating the settling pond and diverting the water coming out of the number 14 portal to the pond. This will allow work to commence on re-opening the number 14 portal.
