Spooktacular Halloween light display happens nightly
The public is invited to view a free Spooktacular Halloween light show set to music for kids and adults alike. Enjoy the show nightly from 7 to 10:30 p.m. from now through Sunday, Nov. 4. The display is located south of Cortez at 6821 Hwy. 160/491 (next to Redburn Tire). This annual light display is done as a gift to the community.
Al Basics headlines Hip-Hop show fundraiser for Cortez Santa
Al Basics, founder of Kamerata Records, will make a Cortez pit stop on his tour and headline a show with fellow label mates Pablo S. Cobars and P.ost S.cript at Blondies, 45 E. Main St., at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. The Hip-Hop collective are touring to promote their most current albums which all were released this past summer. Some local artists that will perform as well are Ugliboiodditi, Ice Man, and All Day. The event is a toy drive in which all benefits will go to Cortez Santa. M-CHS fall drama production
is a dark comedy classic
Montezuma-Cortez High School drama department will present their fall production, Arsenic and Old Lace, a dark comedy classic on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the M-CHS auditorium. The 2012-2013 theatre season will feature shows from the 1930s and 1940s era, keeping with the departments theme this year, A New Deal. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Breakthrough approaches for treating mental health disorders

Civil Rights Commission invites public to two area meetings
The Colorado Civil Rights Commission invites the public to two meetings on Thursday, Oct. 25 in Cortez and Towaoc for an informal discussion on civil rights issues facing Coloradans. The meetings will be held at First National Bank in Cortez, 140 W. Main St., from 1 to 3 p.m., and at the Ute Mountain Casino Conference Room, 3 Weeminuche Dr. in Towaoc, from 6 to 8 p.m. The meetings will be held to educate the public on state civil rights laws and also to take any complaints related to employment, housing, or public accommodations, such as service in a restaurant, park or other public place. For Pets Sake Halloween Bake Sale to benefit local pets
For Pets Sake Humane Society will hold a Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the north entrance to City Market in Cortez. As usual, there will be lots of cookies, cakes, pies, breads, and homemade dog treats! Proceeds from the fundraiser will aid the population of Montezuma and Dolores counties. In addition to running a spay/neuter assistance programs, For Pets Sake provides foster homes for animals awaiting adoption and helps local people pay for emergency veterinary care for their pets. Vista Grande nursing home holds beaded jewelry bazaar
Vista Grande nursing home is holding their first ever beaded jewelry bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the nursing home lobby. The bazaar was started by staff and aids who helped Vista Grande residents design and make pieces of jewelry and other accessories. There will be earrings, necklaces, bracelets and decorated flip flops for sale. All the proceeds will be donated to benefit Parkinsons disease. Pancake Supper fundraiser and trip raffle
Hospice of Montezuma invites the community to a pancake supper and raffle drawing for a trip of a lifetime on Friday, Nov. 9 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Montezuma County Annex, 103 N. Chestnut in Cortez. Tickets for the supper and the raffle will be available from Hospice employees, at the Hospice office or sold at the door. The pancake supper will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon, eggs, dessert toppings and beverages, and is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children and $15 for families. The raffle drawing will be held at 6:30 p.m. for a voucher from Cortez Travel in the amount of $4,000 to be used towards a trip of your dreams.
