There were several letters of support for John McHenry in the Journal. But assaulting an officer of the law is a serious crime, no matter what the reason is; you just cant do that and expect a slap on the wrist.
A sheriffs deputy should not have to carry around a paper with your contact information on it. It would be far more effective to carry around a stack of preprinted waivers for you to sign, releasing any government office for being sued by you or your survivors. If you kill yourself trying to accomplish your cause, your life insurance should not be responsible, and if you get hurt, your hospital insurance should also not be responsible for you, when you sign this waiver, if you are fully aware of the fact that you are acting on your own and no one is responsible for your actions except you.
If this simple process could take place, there might not be further need to assault another law enforcement officer during an evacuation, and people who want to get back to their homes would have to take a few seconds to reconsider what is most valuable to them.
