Irelands Happy Man, Cahal Dunne, will be performing his Irish stylings on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. in the Montezuma-Cortez High School Auditorium. The Grand To Be Irish show is the second concert in the Southwest Colorado Concert Series program for Cortez.
Dunne has been singing and performing his way into hearts all over the world for over 30 years.
Pianist, composer, singer, comedian and all around entertainer, Dunnes shows are full of delightful commentary and comedic storytelling. He will perform Irish favorites for all ages on piano and with full orchestral tracks.
He is most famous for winning the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest and credits that as his big break. His rendition of Happy Man, from which he gets his nickname, sent him to Israel to represent his country at the International Eurovision Contest. He has also won and participated in several song contests around the world. He has appeared with Bob Hope, Denis Day and ABBA. His television appearances include the David Letterman Show, Entertainment Tonight and PBS.
Originally from County Cork, Ireland, he emigrated to the United States after performing concerts in Michigan in 1982. His shows take him all over the country but he is a fan favorite on the East Coast. Dunne now resides near Pittsburg, Pa., with his wife and family.
This will be the last concert in the series for this year. They will return in March with musical duo, Classical Gas and again in April with the tap-dancing force, Two On Tap.
