Art, horse statuary on display at the library
The displays at the Cortez Public Library are horse statuary, owned by Ann Streett-Joslin and acrylics by Justin Dodson. They will be up through the end of December. The Southwest Artists League is also displaying their work. The featured artist for November is Betty Grip.
Do You Feel the Chill? is theme for Storytime
Do You Feel the Chill? is the November theme of Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library. Storytime is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for preschool-aged children. Older children are welcome to join in for the craft at 11:15 a.m. Advent Calendar will wrap up the month on Thursday, Nov. 29.
Raising Readers Storytime offers songs, stories, crafts and silliness and uses the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative program.
Computer training classes
The Cortez Public Library, and the Unlimited Learning Center at 640 E. Second St., will offer computer classes in November. On Thursday, Nov. 29 at 10:30 a.m. there will be a Basic Computer Class at the Unlimited Learning Center, and at 1 p.m. at the library there will be a class called Incredibly Basic Computer Skills. All classes at the library must be signed up for ahead of time, as space is limited. Sign up by calling the library or by stopping by. New childrens book author will read Grannys Rocker
The Cortez Public Library is proud to host new childrens book author Vickie Drake during our regular Storytime at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6. Vickie wrote the book, Grannys Rocker, and will read from it and have the book available for purchase after. Grannys Rocker uses heartwarming rhymes about spending quality time in a rocking chair with a child. The unique illustrations of black-and-white pencil drawings form a sketchbook depiction of the pure and simple joys of life. Tender expressions from the heart of the adult provide the child with opportunities for learning, loving and living. The quality content and construction make Grannys Rocker an appropriate gift book for a parent or grandparent, as well as any child. It is available in eBook format, as well.
The Last Month of the Year December theme for Storytime
The Last Month of the Year is the December theme of Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library, held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for preschool-aged children. Older children are welcome to join in for the craft at 11:15 a.m. Elves, Santas Helpers is the subject on Thursday, Dec. 6. Holidays in Winter will be discussed on Thursday, Dec. 13. There will be no Storytimes on Thursday, Dec. 20 and Thursday, Dec. 27.

December computer classes
The Cortez Public Library and the Unlimited Learning Center, 640 E. 2nd St., will offer computer classes in December. On Friday, Dec. 14, at the library, the Southwest Colorado Workforce Center staff will teach a computer class on various aspects of finding a job on the Internet. On Thursday, Dec. 20, at 10:30 a.m. there will be a Basic Computer Class at the Unlimited Learning Center. At 1 p.m. at the library there will be a class called Internet Searching for Beginners.

Little People Storytime
The Mancos Public Library offers Little People Storytime on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in both English and Spanish. Children ages 3-6 will be taught songs, verses and stories in both languages with the changing of the seasons emphasized. A craft is also offered.
Holiday Decoration Party
The Mancos Public Library will host their Holiday Decoration Party on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon. Supplies (and some instruction) will be available to create snowflakes, window stars, luminaries, and assorted other decorations. All ages are welcome and this event is free.
