Over 78,000 projects have been launched on Kickstarter.com but less than 50 percent have been successfully funded. Durango has had a number of projects listed on Kickstarter just this month, some successfully funded and some not all great ideas.
Inspiration for these projects can be found in a lot of places. Heather Leavitt Martinez has found hers in a recently acquired 1969 Olivetti Valentine typewriter. She is seeking funds through www.Kickstarter.com to fund a typography project in hope to create a typeface called I Its a small project with a goal of $750, enough to cover the costs of the software required to create the typeface and shipping of the rewards. Rewards? Yes! Backers receive rewards for their support. From hand-typed thank-yous to personalized pieces of art and of course the main event itself: the finished typeface, I Launching a Kickstarter project is no easy task. Sure, there are plenty of resources online to get started, but creators are still asked to create a video, write up the project and then after the launch, it is up to the creator to promote the project to friends, family, and the general public. Social networking sites have been critical in the first 24 hours of my campaign, Martinez states. I have utilized Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, and Twitter to get the word out.
