DENVER - U.S. Sen. Mark Udall planned to launch his re-election campaign Friday night with a fundraiser hosted by his fellow Democratic senator, Michael Bennet.
Bennet this week became head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, a post that puts him in charge of candidate recruitment and campaigns across the country for the 2014 election.
Todd Park Mohr, lead singer of Colorado's Big Head Todd and the Monsters, was scheduled to headline Udall's fundraiser at a Denver restaurant.
In addition to Bennet, Udall has lined up a who's-who list of Colorado political figures to donate to his campaign, including Gov. John Hickenlooper, former Govs. Bill Ritter and Roy Romer, and all three Democratic House members.
Tickets ranged from $1,000 to $5,000.
Udall already has $1.1 million in his campaign account, but he'll likely need many times that amount. Bennet raised $11 million for his election in 2010.
No Republican candidates have joined the race yet. However, former U.S. Rep, Bob Beauprez might be interested. He spent much of the year on the campaign trail for presidential candidate Mitt Romney, visiting all corners of the state on bus tours.
U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Aurora, just won a close race last month and also could be a candidate for Senate in 2014.
