On Wednesday, the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests reduced the closure area around the Bull Draw Fire.

The lightning-caused fire, 12 miles northwest of Nucla, has reached 30,580 acres and is burning on Bureau of Land Management and Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest land.

Public access to the Uncompahgre National Forest’s Plateau Division will be limited in the area bordered on the north by the Blue Creek Drainage, on the west and southwest by National Forest boundary, on the south and southeast by National Forest Service Road 411 (Campbell Point Road) and on east by NFSR 402 (Divide Road). National Forest Service Trail 640 (Blue Creek Trail) and NFSR 411 are open.

Forest officials ask that anyone entering the Bull Draw Fire area be wary of falling snags, rolling rocks or logs, smoke and holes from burned-out stumps.

“The remaining closures are being enacted in the interest of public health and safety,” public information officer Kimberlee Phillips said in a press release. “The public’s patience and understanding is greatly appreciated on this matter.”
