A charging station in Paonia. Mancos has contracted with Living Solar, a Durango company, to install a charging station at a cost of $29,445.

The agenda item “Unfinished Business” took center stage at Wednesday’s Mancos Town Board meeting.

First in that category was an update on the town’s new water tank project.

SGM Engineering, the Durango firm hired for the project, inspected the water supply system and said it was surprised to find that disinfection was accomplished using chlorine gas.

This approach, according to SGM, while effective and comparatively low-cost, is also outdated and dangerous to workers should they be exposed to the chlorine because of a leak.

Town Administrator Heather Alvarez has asked SGM to provide the Town Board with alternative disinfection systems and asked board members to approve a change order in the contract with SGM to include the addition at a cost of $8,726.

The board unanimously approved the change order.

Also under the heading of “Unfinished Business” was the topic of the electric vehicle charging station. The town had earlier applied for and received a grant to install a charging station for electric vehicles traveling through the area. The board has contracted with Living Solar, a Durango company, to install the charging station at a cost of $29,445.

In response to concerns from members of the board about maintenance and software upgrades for the charging station, Alvarez had received a quote from Living Solar for $3,400 for a two-year support contract. The board approved the contract unanimously. The charging station is expected to be installed by November.

In other business, the board:

Heard concerns from two town residents about Cottonwood Park and things going on there – someone shooting a bow and arrow and horse droppings. The board asked staff to look into possible actions they might take regarding these concerns.Approved a temporary suspension of the fire ban to allow for the traditional bonfire as part of the Mancos High School Homecoming festivities the week of Sept. 24.Appointed Victoria Peterson Lewis and Frieda Knezek to the Tree Board.Canceled its regular meeting on Sept. 26 to allow board members to attend the Colorado Municipal League District meeting in Durango that day.The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Queenie Barz at 7:55 p.m.
