At least one ambulance and one firetruck responded to a call about a fallen student at Montezuma Cortez Middle School on Monday about 3:45 p.m.

The student, an eighth-grader, left the school in an ambulance and was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital. She was breathing, but details about her condition or the cause of the fall were not disclosed.

The student was found lying on the floor at the foot of a set of stairs about a half-hour before students were released, and the fall appeared to be accidental.

Principal Kate Ott said that she could not provide further information. Assistant Principal Drew Pearson, who responded to the fall, declined to comment, citing concerns about privacy.
