To the editor:

In the wake of the Connecticut shootings last month, parents and community members expressed their concerns about the safety of Mancos students and staff. The Mancos Parent and Teacher Association would like to recognize the Mancos Public Schools for the heightened security measures that were put in place during the week of December 17, 2012. Local law enforcements stepped-up patrols around our school and made a visible presence on school grounds during busy morning and afternoon activities. The Mancos PTA would like to thank the School Board, Brian Hanson, Heath Showalter, Jeanette Allen and all the teachers and staff of Mancos Schools for their awareness and increased security to help keep our children safe. We would also like to thank the Mancos Marshal's office for being visible and listening to our community's concerns.

With sincere thanks,

Mancos Pre K-12 PTA
