DURANGO - An internet-based, youth-only Hunter Education Course is currently being offered for youngsters ages 18-Under in the Four Corners area by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

The internet course is a convenient way for prospective hunters to earn their hunter education cards.

The online section of the course, which can be studied at home, must be completed by Saturday, March 2. Those who take the online course must then participate in a day-long skills class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 3, at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Street. Parents and guardians of registered youths are welcome to register and take the course.

The skills class will include: firearms safety with shooting, hunter responsibilities, wildlife regulations and other hands-on activities. To obtain a safety card, students must pass a written exam and complete the live-fire exercises at the skills class.

Rifles and ammunition will be provided at the skills section. No personal firearms are allowed.

Anyone wishing to hunt in Colorado, born after 1949, must obtain a hunter education card.
