Nola Svoboda, of San Juan SUP Co., rides a stand-up paddleboard Sunday in the backcountry at Lizard Head Pass. Surfing the powder instead of the water on the boards is becoming more popular, she said. The rider uses a paddle to stabilize, but as far as steering, “it’s pretty minimal. You need a clear stretch and then ride it out. It’s a rush!” According to its mission statement,
SUP Co. “strives to inspire everyone to find a passion for stand-up paddleboarding throughout Western Colorado, Eastern Utah and the Four Corners region.”
