Before talking about spring break, I am going to give you a reminder about the Chamber of Commerce 2013 Annual Social and Citizen of the Year Reception scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 28, 6 p.m., at the Visitor Center, 101 E. Bauer. The community is invited to celebrate with the Citizen of the Year honoree. Zuma Natural Foods will be catering the event.

Now, for spring break and your plans:

Mesa Verde National Park has trails open for your cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. I have heard that the trails are well groomed and ready for you to enjoy. Spruce Tree House is open, too. While you can't visit Cliff Palace or Balcony House during this time of year, the loop is open and ready for you to enjoy a little Nordic skiing. The Terrace Café is open at Spruce Tree and ready to serve you some hot beverages or a warm snack. Remember that Chicken Creek north of Mancos, off Highway 184, is also open for your skiing pleasure and the conditions have been excellent. The Visitor Center has free trail maps to help you plan your next ski adventure. Trail maps are also available online at www.mancosvalley.com. Remember that the VC is still on winter hours and only open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.

For those of you who want to set the skis aside and do a little hiking, you can head west toward Utah. The VC also has information to help with your hiking adventures. But, you aren't going to want to miss all the fun planned in Mancos. The Follies is coming up on Saturday, March 2. Chuck Pyle, the Zen Cowboy, will be at the Millwood Junction on Saturday evening, March 9, and then we have the Mancos Melt beginning March 13 through March 16 to help us bust out of our cabin fever mood.
