40 Years Ago Taken from the pages of the Dolores Star, Friday, March 2, 1973 Larry and Marilyn Pleasant, Editors

Two Dolores men were injured, one seriously, in a motorcycle accident 12 miles north of Dolores on Highway 145 on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3:05 p.m., according to Officer Bob Meyers of the Colorado State Patrol, who investigated the accident. Jefferson Carol Brumley, age 42 of Dolores, received a skull fracture, numerous broken ribs, a fractured collar bone and bruises and abrasions to his head and body. He was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez by ambulance. A passenger, Frankie Muniz, age 31 of Dolores, received lacerations, bruises and abrasions to his face, head and body. He was taken to the hospital but refused treatment.

Approximately 1.5 million board feet of Ponderosa pine saw timber and poles will be sold in the near future in the Lake Clydia area of the Glade District, San Juan National Forest.

Cecil Taylor was a substitute officer for Mesa Verde Chapter of Eastern Star in Mancos on Tuesday evening. They initiated two new candidates into their Chapter.

Margaret Nielson entertained her bridge club on Friday evening of last week. Regular members present were Callie Lofquist, Lenore Lee, Homa Cline and Rowena Porter, Guests for the evening were Hazel Smith, Lee Stephens and Emmy Froede, Prize winners for the evening were Homa high, Lenore 2nd high and Hazel bingo.

Mr. and Mrs. Corky McClain and Mr. and Mrs. John Smith enjoyed supper at Shakey's in Cortez on Friday evening and then visited with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hinton.

Pat Carrigan took her son, Robbie to Durango on Tuesday afternoon to have his eyes examined.

Two weeks ago Mr. and Mrs. Art Nielson and Dart drove to Provo, Utah on Saturday to visit with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Nielson. They returned home on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Johnson and daughters and Diane Umberger and sons enjoyed supper with Mr. and Mrs. Dave Umberger on Saturday evening.

The Heart Fund drive was completed last week.

On Monday afternoon Charlotte Lincoln and Charlene Johnson made center pieces for the Blue & Gold Banquet on Tuesday evening.

Jean Johnson was the guest of honor at a birthday dinner at the home of her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Johnson on Sunday. Jean's other two young sons, Larry and Lloyd, were also guests.

Debbie Stephens was home from Ft. Lewis for the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Majors attended a stockholders meeting at the Mesa Verde Savings & Loans last Tuesday afternoon.

Mary Jahnke ad Cecil Taylor were in Colorado Springs Saturday through Monday. Cecil attended a meeting of the Daughters of the Nile at the Ramahah Temple in Pueblo on Monday.

Leona Squires returned home last Wednesday after spending a week in Green River, Wyoming visiting with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Squires. She spent two days in Moab, Utah visiting with her son, Charles Squires and family en route to Wyoming.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cline and Mr. and Mrs. Art Nielson enjoyed dinner at the Golden Horseshoe above Durango on Sunday. After dinner they drove on up to Purgatory.
