Addressing a widely circulated rumor that surfaced this week, Southwest Colorado Community College President Patty Erjavec said Wednesday that the school is not leaving Mancos.
“Pueblo Community College is privileged to serve the students and the communities in Durango and Mancos, and we have no intention of leaving the area or closing a campus,” Erjavec said in a phone interview.
Southwest Colorado Community College is a division of Pueblo Community College, based in Pueblo. The college also has campuses in Durango and Cañon City. Erjavec is president of Pueblo Community College.
The rumor picked up momentum during a Montezuma County Commission town hall meeting in Mancos on Monday. A commenter suggested the college was making plans to leave the Mancos campus.
Erjavec said there is “absolutely no validity” to that suggestion.
She said that Pueblo Community College sometimes reallocates resources among the college campuses. , For example, not every class offered at other campuses may be available at the Mancos campus.
Erjavec said she did not know how the rumor got started or where it came from.
“There is no intention of closing that campus,” she said. “We are committed to serving the students there.”
