Jeff Pope takes off in the pancake-flipping contest at the dinner to benefit Grace’s Kitchen in 2015. He had the fastest time, but Police Chief Roy Lane was able to “bribe” the judge with a donation to Grace’s Kitchen and give the win to Sheriff Steve Nowlin.

A Mardi Gras Pancake Supper will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. on Feb. 28 at St. Barnabas Church in Cortez.

The meal will include pancakes, bacon, sausages, fruit, scrambled eggs and a drink. The cost is $7.50 for adults, $4 for children 10 and under, and $20 for a family of two adults and two or more kids.

Funds raised will go to support Grace’s Soup Kitchen, a Jubilee Ministry of St. Barnabas.

Along with the meal there will be a pancake flipping race that will begin at 6 p.m. City notables will run and flip along a course, vying for the coveted Golden Spatula award.

St. Barnabas is at the corner of North and Elm streets. Call 565-7865 for information.
