Thursday, Jan. 24

12:45 p.m.: A woman was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant while driving an Oldsmobile sedan on the 400 block of N. Mildred Road. The vehicle was towed.

2:51 p.m.: A man driving Chevrolet sedan near the intersection of E. First and S. Washington streets was stopped on suspicion of an unrestrained child in the vehicle. He was arrested on active warrant and for driving on a revoked license.

4:35 p.m.: A intoxicated man walking on the 300 block of E. Fourth St. was arrested for violating pretrial release conditions stating he cannot consume alcohol.

6:36 p.m.: A man was cited for trespassing at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. He entered the front doors and starting saying obscene things at an employee. He was previously trespassed until May 2019 and now has an indefinite trespass notice.

Friday, Jan. 25

2:03 a.m.: A man was cited for trespassing at the Cortez Fire Department, 31 N. Washington St. He was intoxicated and disturbing firefighters.

2:07 p.m.: A woman reported a possible hit-and-run on the 400 block of W. Seventh St. There were no immediate suspects.

5:14 p.m.: An employee at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., was arrested for theft. He admitted to a police officer that he was falsely returning items and putting the refunded amount on a gift card for personal use for a least a couple of months. He was also arrested on an active warrant.

Saturday, Jan. 26

12:59 p.m.: A man was arrested for stealing from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. He was found sleeping on a bench outside of the store with a stolen bottle of mouthwash and $15 sunglasses. The man is known to drink mouthwash to get intoxicated.

3:03 a.m.: A man was detained at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., on suspicion of DUI on the 2200 block of E. Main St. but he blew a 0.048 BAC and was released from custody. He was cited for weaving.

11:11 a.m.: A man was cited for third-degree assault and harassment for possibly kicking or kneeing a man outside of the Montezuma County Community Center, 425 Roger Smith Ave.

11:44 a.m.: A vehicle was following too closely on the 300 block of E. Main St. and struck the vehicle in front. There was moderate damage to both vehicles and no injuries.

2:39 p.m.: A vehicle changed lanes on the 700 block of S. Broadway and struck the trailer of another vehicle driving in the same direction.

4:34 p.m.: A man was cited for trespassing from City Market, 508 E. Main St. He was trespassed from City Market the day before but returned to take a drink from a water fountain.

4:39 p.m.: A man was cited for shoplifting for stealing a $2.99 bag of Lay’s potato chips from City Market, 508 E. Main St.

6:04 p.m.: A man was arrested and served a felony hold for violation of bond conditions and trespass at City Market, 508 E. Main St. He was previously trespassed from City Market and was found standing in an alleyway with a group of people. He told an officer he didn’t think the alley was part of City Market. His felony bond conditions stipulate he cannot consume alcohol.

Sunday, Jan. 27

12:11 a.m.: A man driving a Chevy sedan was pulled over on the 10 block of N. State St. for lack of license plate lights. He was cited for not having a license, insurance or registration and was arrested on a failure to appear warrant.

3:22 a.m.: A man was arrested for DUI in the Walmart parking lot, 1835 E. Main St., after having an argument with a woman. A witness heard the disturbance and saw a truck driving around the parking lot with feet hanging out of the window.

7:38 a.m.: A man was arrested for trespassing at City Market, 508 E. Main St. He was issued a citation for shop lifting the day before.

3:10 p.m.: A man at City Market, 508 E. Main St., was cited for trespassing.

3:28 p.m.: A man arrested for disturbing the peace and trespassing at City Market, 508 E. Main Street, after striking a man in the face. During a search, an officer found in his pocket a copy of a City Market trespass notice issued Jan. 22.

7:12 p.m.: A man who was trespassed from City Market, 508 E. Main St., a few days before was arrested for trespassing at City Market.

7:52 p.m.: A man was issued a Montezuma County warrant, a La Plata County warrant and a municipal citation for open container after he was fund with a stolen a bottle of Epic vodka from Cork N Bottle, 443 E. Main St.

Monday, Jan. 28

12:12 p.m.: A second man suspected of being involved in a theft of vodka from Cork N Bottle, 443 E. Main St., was found sleeping on the ground in front of Burger Boy, 400 E. Main St. He was served an active La Plata County warrant. He was highly intoxicated and had to be medically cleared before he could be taken to jail.

2:17 p.m.: A man was arrested after his mother reported that he was being verbally abusive and wanted him to leave the house on the 500 block of N. Beech St. The man had an active restraining order against his mom that prohibited any harassing contact.

6:28 p.m.: A man driving a work truck was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and DUI for a collision with a man driving a pickup. The driver said he was just coming from work. A 100 ml bottle of vodka was found in his vehicle and blew a 0.202 BAC. Three independent witnesses stated they saw the man driving recklessly prior to the accident and saw him driving at a very high rate of speed, weaving and almost causing collisions.

5:49 p.m.: Two vehicles collided in the intersection of E. Main St. and Ash St. Drivers provided conflicting statements about who had the green light. There was major damage to both vehicles but no injuries.

6:29 p.m.: A female inmate at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., was served a warrant.

9:18 p.m.: A man was cited for trespassing at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. The man, who is trespassed indefinitely from Walmart and various other properties in Cortez, was caught stealing a BB gun by concealing it in his jacket as he left the store. Police found the man, dressed in all black, blocking traffic on S. Sligo St. He was arrested for intoxicated pedestrian in the roadway, shoplifting and trespassing.

9:38 p.m.: An intoxicated man was arrested for disturbing the peace at The Bridge Emergency Shelter, 24 N. Chestnut St. He was highly intoxicated, became disruptive and locked himself in the restroom stall.

Tuesday, Jan. 29

4:37 p.m.: A man already in custody at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., was charged with forgery and theft for stealing checks from his grandmother, buying $229.18 in Jeep parts at Napa Auto Parts, 325 S. Broadway, and then returning the items for a cash payout. He admitted to a police officer that he forged the checks because he wanted the vehicle parts so he could get out of the area. He was arrested in January in connection with a stabbing in Durango and then brought to Montezuma County on a warrant.

6:13 p.m.: A man was arrested on the 900 block of Memorial Dr. for violating a mandatory criminal protection order that prohibited from contacting another man that he allegedly assaulted.

6:16 p.m.: A man was cited for trespassing at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. He had been cited for the same thing earlier in the month.
