John Lill, one of the early pioneers in the Dolores and Rico sections, died at Durango Sunday. Mr. Lill was well known to all the old timers and they were all his friends. He had been ill for several months and his condition became critical when he was taken to the hospital for treatment. Lill was born in in Saarburg, Germany on April 10th, 1858 and came to the Dolores vicinity in 1907.

Thieves entered the Texas company distributing station here sometime late Saturday night and stole something like a barrel of Ethyl gasoline. While the officers have a pretty good idea as to who did the job, no arrests had been made up to press time yesterday.

Word has been received here that A. L. Swallow, who was injured recently in a fall off a telephone pole, is somewhat better. It was thought at first that his back was broken and he was paralyzed from the waist down. Mr. Swallow was employed by the Mt. States Tel & Tel. Co., near Meeker, Colo.

Lois Johnson, daughter of Mrs. Earl Ritter, was rushed to the Cortez hospital Wednesday evening where she underwent an emergency operation for appendicitis. Lois was taken suddenly ill that evening while playing with her school mates. She was reported as resting easy yesterday.

Charles Torrez returned Monday from Mancos, where he was present at the death and funeral of his father Juan B. Torrez, old time section foreman, and made preparations to move his household belongings to Mancos where he and his wife will be located in the future.

Mrs. Callie Harkey entertained at bridge Wednesday night, Mrs. C. W. Lilly holding the high score of the evening, while Mrs. J. B. Gelwick had the galloping prize at the close of the games. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess and a social hour enjoyed at the luncheon table. Guests for the evening were: Mesdames Gelwick, Gaines, Webb, Lilly, Owens, Greene and Bradshaw.

The Civic Club dance Friday night was attended by a large crowd who made things lively until about three o'clock Saturday morning. The hall was decorated in the way that only these ladies know how.

Word form Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ogletree is that Mrs. Ogletree is somewhat improved in health and that he will be home about the first of the month. They are at Chandler, Arizona.

Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Starkey moved this week to the Harry Morgan ranch on the Dolores River below McPhee. The son, Ray Starkey, and family who formerly lived on the place, have moved to Durango.

Mrs. Minnie Belmear gave a delightful dinner party to her relatives one day this week. Among the guest were: Mrs. Lottie Lockett, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Brumely and son, Wilson, and Mrs. Temple Pyle and children.

The condition of Newell Musgrave who is still in the Cortez hospital, has shown much improvement during the past two weeks. While Mr. Musgrave's knee would still has to have drainage tubes in it, his general conditions is considered much better.
