Wednesday, Feb. 6

3:28 a.m.: A man with two DUI convictions was arrested for DUI on the 300 block of W. Main St. He also was cited for speeding 10 mph over the speed limit and driving without insurance.

8:56 a.m.: A vehicle slid on ice on the 300 block of W. Empire St. and struck a stop sign and the curb, causing minor damage to the front bumper. The vehicle was towed.

7:39 p.m.: A man was arrested for trespassing at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. He was intoxicated and was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for medical clearance before taken to Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

Thursday, Feb. 7

3:11 p.m.: A man was arrested for DUI and no proof of insurance on the 600 block of E. Montezuma Ave.

2:22 p.m.: A man was arrested on a Montezuma County warrant on the 800 block of N. Mildred Rd.

6:41 p.m.: A man was arrested on a Dolores County warrant at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.

Friday, Feb. 8

8:11 a.m.: A vehicle slid into another vehicle at the intersection of E. Third St. and S. Elm St. There was minor damage to both vehicles.

11:01 a.m.: A man was arrested on a Montezuma County warrant while at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St.

12:36 p.m.: A wood stove pipe caught fire at a mobile home on the 300 block of S. Broadway. A man inside the structure exited safely. Cortez Fire Protection District put out the fire.

1:48 p.m.: A police sergeant assisted a bail bondsman in taking a man with several warrants into custody on the 100 block of N. Market St.

2:22 p.m.: An intoxicated man sitting on the curb with his feet in the roadway was asked to remove his feet from the roadway, on the 800 block of E. Montezuma Ave. He refused, yelled profanity and walked into the roadway, at which point he was arrested on a charge of being intoxicated in the roadway.

5:35 p.m.: An elderly man with an active warrant who also was reported to be missing was arrested at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. He was escorted to a patrol vehicle and could not walk without a cane.

6:11 p.m.: A man reported a possible hit-and-run on the 1400 block of E. Main St. There were no immediate leads or suspects.

7:25 p.m.: A deer crossed the 1500 block of E. Main St. and collided with the side of a vehicle. An officer observed deer fur and hoof markings on the driver’s side door. The deer was not located.

Saturday, Feb. 9

3:10 a.m.: A man was arrested on the 800 block of S. Broadway for driving on a revoked license as a habitual traffic offender.

8:26 a.m.: A woman called to report a drunken driver on the 2000 block of E. Main St. but when police arrived, they arrested the woman for two San Juan County warrants.

Sunday, Feb. 10

1:33 a.m.: A man was arrested for obstructing police and violating a protection order at a residence on the 600 block of N. Elm St. An officer followed a blue sedan out of Angel’s End Zone, 309 N. Broadway, because it didn’t have a license plate light. The driver accelerated when the officer turned on emergency lights and then entered his home. Because of the man’s stature, the officer called for backup. Four officers attempted to take the man into custody, but resorted to a stun device to subdue him.

1:33 p.m.: A man was arrested for stealing assorted tools valued at $58.38 from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. The man told officers that he steals from Walmart often and was recently arrested for stealing from the Walmart in Farmington. He said he steals tools and sells them so he can buy food.
