Young Mancos artists are invited to apply for a new scholarship established by the Mancos Creative District.
The Create 81328 Scholarship fund aims to support local college-bound, arts-focused students. Organizers say it will fill an unmet need for artistic youths and is aligned with the town’s creative vibe.
“When our son was a senior in high school and looking to study art in college, he didn’t find scholarships for art,” said Maggie Goodell, who heads the district’s scholarship committee and came up with the concept for the fund.
This year, the district will be awarding one $1,000 scholarship, funded by anonymous donors and the Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce. The deadline to apply is April 15.
