A man was arrested in Mancos last week after being charged with trespassing at one residence and burglarizing another just a few hours later.
On Wednesday, Mancos officials received a call from Cortez Dispatch at 5:47 p.m., asking them to respond to a reported criminal trespass at the 100 block of East Sunset Drive.
After arriving on-scene, a Mancos officer spoke with witnesses, who said that a man had walked into an unsecured residence and stayed inside for several minutes.
The man in question would later be identified as 44-year-old Shadrach Mykytiuk, who has previously faced charges of motor vehicle theft.
According to Marshal Justen Goodall, witnesses said Mykytiuk then left the residence, was “verbally confronted by a neighbor and left the scene in a lifted silver Dodge pickup truck shortly after being confronted.”
A few hours later, at 8:39 p.m., Mancos officials were called by Cortez Dispatch for a reported disturbance at the 300 block of Aztec Street. The man involved was again identified as Mykytiuk.
Before a Mancos officer arrived at the block, Mykytiuk had left the scene in a 2007 lifted silver Dodge pickup, according to Goodall. However, the officer was able to then find the truck unoccupied at the block of 400 N. Mesa St., aided by the vehicle description and license plate number.
The officer approached a nearby home, but before he was able to knock on the door, Mykytiuk ran out of the residence carrying a black lockbox and a box of syringes, Goodall said.
Mykytiuk was taken into custody and charged with first-degree burglary, according to Goodall. He was also charged with first-degree criminal trespass for the earlier East Sunset Drive incident.
Mancos officers also discovered that the stolen property was illegal and narcotic-related, Goodall said. Amanda Wright, the 31-year-old resident of the North Mesa Street home, was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance.
Both Wright and Mykytiuk have hearings set for later this week at Montezuma Combined Courts.
