Songs for the Road plays bluegrass in Montezuma Park for the first 2018 Third Thursday Market in Cortez.

The Cortez City Council approved a code change and rezone that will allow the Cortez Retail Enhancement Association to build a $30,000 bandstand at Montezuma Park.

For the past three years, musicians at the Third Thursday summer market have stood on the grass at Montezuma Park. Mark Drudge, executive director of CREA, hopes that will change once the monthly event picks up again from June through September.

“We want to do this the way you all want to have it done so it fits your needs,” Drudge told the City Council on Tuesday. “It is your bandshell when this is all done.”

The City Council unanimously approved on final reading an ordinance that permits theaters in the “open” zone and rezoned the park from “neighborhood business.”
