Montezuma-Cortez High School graduate and former Panther Press Editor Marlize Van Romburgh has been included on Editor and Publisher's list of "25 Under 35."
Editor and Publisher is a trade journal of the newspaper industry, and the annual "25 Under 35" list recognizes young industry professionals who are "leaving their mark on the business of selling news."
Romburgh, 24, is managing editor of the Pacific Coast Business Times in Santa Barbara, Calif. She graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif., with a bachelor's degree in journalism and a minor in economics.
E&P reported, "In addition to her full-time role managing the weekly production schedule of the print edition of Pacific Coast Business Times, Marlize Van Romburgh holds down key beats such as banking and commercial real estate.
"Currently, Van Romburgh is a key member of the Business Times team charged with developing a platform-neutral digital product that will enhance both revenue and readership opportunities across all tablets and mobile devices.
She is responsible for bringing the paper multiple SABEW best in business awards, two L.A. Press Club awards, and a Sigma Delta Chi award."
In a brief interview with E&P, she offered advise for other young newspaper professionals and described her approach to the digital transition of the Business Times, which includes laying the foundation to convert to a digital-only publication, something she suspects will occur in the next five to 10 years.
