Cortez, Dolores and Mancos plan Halloween events

Following is a schedule of fall events submitted to The Journal.CortezThursday, Oct. 27

Fall Carnival, 5-8 p.m. at Johnson Building room 110, 925 S. Broadway. Games including cake walk, face-painting, bobbing for apples, beanbag toss, musical chairs and poke a pumpkin. Tickets: 25 cents each or five for $1. Hosted by High Desert Early Head Start parents.



Friday, Saturday, Monday, Oct. 28, 29, 31

M-CHS haunted house, “Darkness,” 8-10:30 p.m. at the M-CHS auxiliary gym. Fundraiser for the drama department. Tickets: $8 for adults; $5 for students and senior citizens; kids 5 and under, free. Visitors will get $1 off admission for every nonperishable food item they bring. Details: www.mchsdrama.org.



Friday, Oct. 28

A Pirate Carnival, 5-8 p.m., Beech Street Preschool. Cost: $2 donation per person and $5 per family benefits school.



Saturday, Oct. 29

Pumpkin Festival and Trick or Treat Parade, 12-4 p.m. Registration for Costume Contest at noon, judging at 1 p.m. at the Cortez Cultural Center. Then a trick or treat parade and a pumpkin festival. Games, face-painting, photo booth. Tickets for sale. Volunteers needed. Details: 970-560-3050.



For Pets’ Sake Humane Society’s Halloween Bake Sale, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the north entrance to City Market in Cortez. Bakers can drop off goodies starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Early drop-offs can be made at NetForcePC (Main Street near Safeway) on Friday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bake, buy or donate and help local pets. Details: Janet at 970-533-4042.



The Piñon Project Spooktacular 5K Fun Run/Walk, 9-11 a.m., The Piñon Project at 212 W. Montezuma Ave. Registration fees are $30 for an adult, and $15 for 12 years of age and under. Register at www.pinonproject.org. Details: kproctor@pinonproject.org or 970-564-1195.



Tip your firefighters fundraiser, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at JFargos, 1209 E. Main St. Cortez firefighters serve diners, for tips. Tour fire trucks, get a free fire helmet and bags with safety items for trick or treating. Wear a costume and win a free mini-ice cream cone. Trunk or treat event from 5-7 p.m.



Monday, Oct. 31

Evangel Assembly Fall Festival, 6-8 p.m., Evangel Assembly, 209 W. Fifth St. Food and prizes. Free. Details: 565-4198.



Saturday, Nov. 5

Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church Fall Bazaar, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., 320 S. Washington St. Foods for sale, including pie and coffee; soup, pie and beverage; and baked goods, jams, jellies and crafts.



Holiday Festival, 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 515 N. Park St. in Cortez. Authentic Navajo Tacos for $8 including a drink and dessert. Also: baked goods, candy, needlecraft, toys, gifts, ornaments, and holiday decorations. Pie and coffee starting at 9 a.m. Benefits the mission budget of the United Methodist Women. DoloresMonday, Oct. 31

Disco-themed Halloween and fourth anniversary party, 5-8 p.m., Pony Expresso, 795 Railroad Ave. Free food samples, candy and hot chocolate and coffee. Coffee drinks and desserts also available for purchase. Detials: 882-7950.



MancosMonday, Oct. 31

Halloween Party, 5-6 p.m. at the Mancos Public Library. Mystery boxes, face painting, mystery boxes, and homemade chili. A great way to start a spooktacular evening.
