Cruzan leads rodeo in 2 events

When the scores were in after the Monte Vista High School Rodeo, the last rodeo of the spring season, Jake Cruzan topped the leader board in two events. In the overall standings, Cruzan placed first in high school boys cutting and first with his partner, Taten Koenig in high school dally team roping.

Other local team members to land a spot among the top four are: Dax Koskie, bareback riding, second; Emma Reim, girls cutting, third; and Tanner Lockhart, saddle bronc; first.

The Colorado High School Rodeo State Finals will be in Lamar on June 5-9.

Following are the Colorado scores after the CINCH High School Rodeo in Fort Collins. Day one competition: Tanner Lockhart placed third in saddle broncs with a score of 63. Barrel racing: Jessica Winbourn, eighth, 16.534; Cayce Lockhart, 17th, 17.230 and Emma Reim, 18th, 17.585. Team roping: Jake Cruzan/Taten Koenig picked up a first place win with a time of 7.910; Cade Van Soelen/Riley Van Soelen, placed sixth, 10.180. Pole bending: Emma Reim, 19th, 23.931.

On day two of the CINCH rodeo, Tanner Lockhart was in a first place tie with a score of 67 in the saddle broncs. The team of Jake Cruzan/Taten Koenig brought in a third place with a time of 8.230. Barrel racing: Jessica Winbourn placing 21st, 17.848; Emma Reim 20th, 17.510 and Cayce Lockhart taking a five second penalty and placing 32nd with a time of 22.222. In the pole bending, Emma Reim placed 15th with a time of 22.642.

In the junior high division in Lamar on day one, in barrel racing Bailee Karo picked up fourth place with a 17.782 with Cassie Finley right behind her in fifth place with a 17.793. Shelby Fullmer placed 15th with a 23.506. In the girls goat tying event, Cassie pulled in a fourth place with a 10.340 and Shelby Fullmer in fifth place with a 14.950. Junior high pole bending saw Shelby Fullmer in eighth place with a 23.927.

On day two, Bailee Karo smoked the barrel racing for a second place with a time of 17.445. Cassie Finley and Shelby Fullmer both had a penalty for knocking a barrel over. Cassie placed 14th with a 23.733 and Shelby was 15th with a time of 29.158. In the girls goat tying, Cassie Finley pulled in a fourth place with a time of 10.970. In pole bending, Shelby Fullmer placed 11th with 29.240.

Lamar High School Division had three rodeos on May 17-19. On day one, Dax Koskie rode his bareback horse to a second place win with a score of 60. Barrel racing saw Emma Reim placing 17th, time of 19.192. Both Cayce Lockhart and Jessica Winbourn took a 5 second penalty for knocking over a barrel. Cayce placed 28th, 23.884 and Jessica 29th, 24.503. In the cutting competition, Jake Cruzan took first place for the boys with a score of 69 and Emma Reim took third for the girls with a score of 63. In dally team roping, the team of Jake Cruzan/Tate Koenig took a seventh place with a time of 19.500. In the saddle bronc competition, Tanner Lockhart rode to first-place win with a score of 71.

On day two, in the barrel racing, Cayce Lockhart placed 19th with a time of 18.294 with Emma Reim placing 20th with 18.581 and Jessica Winbourn 25th with a time of 22.530. Boys cutting found Jake Cruzan placing first with a score of 70 and Emma Reim placing fourth in girls cutting with a score of 61. The team of Jake Cruzan/Taten Koenig pulled in a third place win with a time of 8.540 in the dally team roping.

Day three of rodeo competition saw Dax Koskie ride to a first place win with a score of 57 in bareback riding. Tanner Lockhart scored a 74 in the Saddle Broncs for a first place win. Keenan Elliot came in 6th with a score of 59. In the barrel racing, Cayce Lockhart placed 16th with a time of 18.147; Emma Reim 21st, 18.439; Jessica Winbourn, 29th, 24.630. In the boys cutting, Jake Cruzan pulled in a second place with a score of 66 and Emma Reim placed third with a 61.5 score in the girls cutting. In dally team roping, Jake Cruzan/Taten Koenig placed second with a time of 7.190 and Tenai Lansing/Tommy Thompson took eighth place with a score of 19.270.
