A motorcyclist was critically injured Friday night in the 900 block of Colorado Highway 3, south of downtown Durango.

Durango resident Wilford Albo, 45, was traveling north on a white 2007 Harley-Davidson Sportster when the driver of a maroon 2016 Buick Enclave traveling south turned left, clipping the motorcycle, said Officer Ron Wysocki with the Durango Police Department.

Durangoan Anita Wigton, 66, was turning into the United Rentals driveway when she hit Albo, Wysocki said.

Albo was thrown from the motorcycle after he was hit by the Buick.

The motorcycle continued upright after Albo was thrown, veering right into the parking lot of a strip mall. The motorcycle crashed into a parked silver 2006 Subaru Outback. The Outback then hit a parked gray 2017 Honda CRV, Wysocki said.

A nurse from Salida who was dining at the Highway 3 Roadhouse and Oyster Bar administered CPR on Albo until medics arrived, said Chuck Norton, owner of the restaurant.

“Just as she walked out the front, it happened,” Norton said Monday. “The guy was not breathing and she gave CPR and got him back going until an EMT got here.”

Albo was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center and then flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction for care, Wysocki said. Albo was in critical condition Monday, said Teri Cavanagh, spokeswoman for St. Mary’s.

The crash is still under investigation, and Wigton has not been cited, Wysocki said. No drugs or alcohol are suspected to be involved in the crash.

The Subaru Outback had to be towed. The Honda was driven away, Wysocki said.

Anyone who saw the crash or has more information about it can call Wysocki at 764-5372.
