San Juan Health Partners Specialty Services opened Monday on Florida Road and will offer cardiology and urology services.

A cardiology and urology clinic opened Monday on Florida Road in Durango to offer specialty medical care in the area.

San Juan Health Partners Specialty Services operated in Bayfield for 2½ years before moving to Durango, said Tim Bevelacqua, executive director for San Juan Health Partners, a division of San Juan Regional Medical Center.

The clinic moved, in part, because many of its patients were traveling from the Durango area to the Bayfield clinic, he said.

“Hopefully, we would make it more convenient for those patients in particular,” he said.

The new space also allows the clinic to expand in the future, although he could not say what the new services would be.

Bevelacqua couldn’t say if the demand for cardiology and urology services was driven by doctors leaving the area or if the area has faced a long-term shortage of care in those areas. The clinic’s staff has heard from patients that finding cardiology and urology care is difficult in this area, he said.

Most patients are referred to the specialty clinic by a primary care doctor, he said. Referrals to the clinic’s cardiologist Dr. Rachel Chaney were strong when the Bayfield clinic opened, in part, because Chaney has worked in the region since 2013, Bevelacqua said.

Chaney treats and manages heart disease and peripheral vascular disease, in addition to other care.

The clinic’s two other physicians, Dr. Daniel Mannas and Dr. Chris Taylor, provide a full range of urology services.

San Juan Health Partners Specialty Services opened at 1485 Florida Road, Suite A 103. The clinic’s hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The clinic can be reached at 444-0260.
