After traveling to Kansas City, Missouri, for the global finals, the Dolores Middle School Destination Imagination team took eighth place out of 73 teams in their division.

Destination Imagination is an academic competition in which student teams from elementary through high school solve challenges requiring creativity and critical thinking. This year’s Dolores team – the Beartown D&DIers – opted to take part in the fine arts challenge and advanced to the global finals after they won the regional and state competitions in their category.

“We would really like to thank our friends, family and the community for helping us get to the competition,” team manager Michelle Cochrane said. “It was an amazing experience for the kids.”

The fine arts challenge that the Dolores team selected involved creating a skit based on a game they chose. Teams were judged based on creativity, innovation, and cohesiveness, among other qualities.

The team was also able to march in the opening ceremonies, as part of a select group representing Colorado, Cochrane said.

“They won’t ever forget the experience,” she said.
