Chevel Shepherd performs Dec. 17, 2018, during Season 15 of the NBC show “The Voice” in Universal City, Calif.

When Farmington high school student Chevel Shepherd won Season 15 of the television singing competition show “The Voice,” she won the grand prize of $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music Group.

And, she said back in December, her life was already beginning to change, including beginning to record an album.

“It seems like it went by quick,” she said. “People (are) just noticing me and stuff. It’s been crazy.”

The ride doesn’t appear to be slowing down for the teen, who, according to her website, has a pretty full dance card for the summer, including a stop in Durango.

Shepherd will perform Aug. 9 at “Friday at the Fair,” an annual concert that takes place during the La Plata County Fair. Opening for Shepherd will be Six Dollar String Band.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Six-Dollar String Band will perform at 7 p.m. and Shepherd will take the stage at 8.

Tickets for the show are now on sale. Reserved seats are $35 and general admission tickets are $25 and are available online at shorturl.at/btGLZ, by phone at 747-7657 and in person at the Durango Welcome Center, 802 Main Ave. General admission tickets will also be available for cash purchase at the main office at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
