The Mancos Fourth of July fireworks show has been canceled because of current drought conditions.
Mancos Fire District Assistant Chief Ed Martinez confirmed Tuesday that the town's annual Independence Day pyrotechnics spectacular has been called off this year.
"It's just too dry," Martinez said.
Officials purchased the fireworks in anticipation of the town's annual Fourth of July display, and Martinez is hopeful the show can be rescheduled, possibly for Mancos Days or Labor Day weekend.
"We're just waiting for a better time," Martinez said. "We need rain."
Town Administrator Andrea Phillips also reminded Mancos residents that fireworks are not permitted inside town limits unless permitted by the marshal.
