Mancos Creative District will host the Grand Summer Nights Burrofest from 4 to 8 p.m. July 20 in downtown Mancos.

The free event will kick off with a Donkey Derby in Boyle Park. Each burro and handler will race through a short obstacle course. Spectators are encouraged to come early and bring a chair.

After the race, burros will act as live models for artist demonstrations of sketching, sculpting and painting. Artists include Veryl Goodnight, Brad Goodell, Miki Harder, Lille Diane, Marilyn Kroeker and more.

David Daney, author of “Packing with Burros,” will demonstrate burro packing and rigging at the Ballantine lot next door to the Mancos Common Press. Mancos Common Press will also host it’s grand re-opening.

Kilgore American Indian Art Gallery will offer Navajo fry bread and music by Lyn Lewis. Fenceline Cider will host food and drinks throughout the event, starting at 7 p.m., with multi-instrumentalist Awna Texeira. Local artist booths, carriage rides and kids activities will round out the evening.
