A three-vehicle crash in the construction zone on U.S. Highway 160 Monday morning sent one driver to the hospital, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The crash occurred when a westbound Ford 550 flatbed truck failed to stop for a line of traffic waiting to be flagged through the construction zone near the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park, according to Sgt. James Saunders.

The truck rear-ended a Toyota SUV towing a camper trailer, and the impact sent the truck’s front wheels into the camper’s interior.

The Toyota then rear-ended a stopped van.

Saunders said traffic was not delayed significantly because the flagging crew adjusted traffic-control barriers in a way that kept the line flowing in both directions.

The Ford 550 truck driver was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said. The camper was destroyed. Everyone was wearing seat belts, and the incident remained under investigation.
