It's shaping up to be a busy summer for Mancos, and the library is no exception. On Friday, we were fortunate enough to host a plethora of talented musicians for our "Celebrate Mancos Public Library with Music" event. It was a wonderful evening featuring a wide variety of talent from all over the valley, and I'd like to extend a big thank-you to all of the musicians, volunteers and library staff who helped to make the event such a success. Thanks to your support and the generosity of all that attended, we raised a little over $600 to benefit the library.

On Sunday, July 14, the Mancos Friends of the Library will co-host a daylily sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the home of Pete and Holly Cruser at 10405 Rd. 41.4 in Mancos (in Sun West Estates).

Holly is a grower of more than 150 award-winning cultivars of daylilies, and this is the second year she has generously donated the proceeds from the sale to the Friends of the Library.

Thank you, Holly and Pete, for your ongoing support of the library!

Finally, the Mancos Friends of the Library will host their annual Mancos Days booksale on July 26 and 27 in the library meeting room, with a "Friends Only" ice cream social & pre-sale on July 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. You must be a member of the Friends to attend this day. Membership opportunities will be available. They have an entirely new selection of titles for sale, including many nonfiction books.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to recognize the Mancos Friends of the Library for all of the hard work they do to help support the library - thank you, Friends!

In addition to hosting numerous fundraisers of their own, we can always count on members of the Friends to be among the volunteers for any event or workday planned for the library.

All proceeds earned by the Friends are used to support library programs, collections and services. As the library's funding from county tax revenues continues to decrease, we can use all the help we can get.

If you're looking to join an organization that is committed to the success of the Mancos Public Library and is committed to getting their hands dirty to make it happen, then the Mancos Friends of the Library is for you.

For more information about how to join the Friends or on any upcoming library programs or events, please contact the library at 533-7600.

Lee Hallberg is director of the Mancos Public Library. Contact her at 533-7600.
