Wednesday, June 26
10:09 a.m. An officer was called to Montezuma Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., to serve an outstanding warrant on a male inmate. The man was arrested and left in the custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
11:27 a.m. An officer was called to the Piñon Project, 210 E. Main St., concerning an active threat and arrested a man for violating a protection order. The man, sweating profusely, was examined and medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, then left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
3:01 p.m. An officer was called to the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., about a report of a theft. When the officer arrived, a woman appeared to be arguing with a man, who claimed she had stolen his wallet. The woman gave the officer several fictitious names, then was arrested on a La Plata County warrant out of La Plata County and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
11:26 p.m. An officer observed a man stumbling while walking southbound in the parking lot of Slavens, 100 W. First St., then in a lane of traffic. He was arrested for violating a criminal protection order barring the consumption of alcohol and was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
11:41 p.m. A patrol officer arrested an apparently intoxicated man in the Burger Boy lot, 400 E. Main St., and left him in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
11:43 p.m. An officer was called to the Cortez Post Office, 35 S. Beech St., about a reported motor vehicle theft. While en route, the officer encountered the suspect vehicle, an older model Ford pickup, traveling toward his patrol car on East First Street. The officer swerved to avoid the vehicle, then pursued it with his emergency lights on. The driver allegedly ran a red light and two stop signs before stalling on Ridge Drive. The officer approached the vehicle with his firearm in hand. The man told the officer to shoot him and yelled several obscenities. After repeatedly trying to restart the truck, the man locked himself in the truck and officers broke windows of the truck and pepper-sprayed the man. After exiting the truck, the man tumbled to the ground and allegedly resisted arrest and threatened to kill all the officers. He was arrested. He was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment for pepper spray and for a medical clearance, then was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center and placed on a felony hold for vehicular eluding. He was also booked for resisting arrest, reckless driving, stop sign violation, red light violation, driving under the influence and violating a protection order.
Thursday, June 27
10:10 a.m. An officer in the 200 block of East Second Street arrested a woman on a warrant and left her in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
4:50 p.m. An officer patrolling the 200 block of East Third Street observed a woman he recognized as having an active warrant enter a house. The officer placed the woman in custody and discovered a Baggie with a clear crystalline substance he suspected to be meth and eight syringes and four metal spoons with sponges. The substances later tested positive for meth and heroin. The woman was served a felony warrant and also issued a felony hold for possession of a controlled substance and was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
7:02 p.m. An officer responded to a minor crash in a parking lot in the 2300 block of Trinity Avenue. The officer filed a report about the mishap.
9:08 p.m. An officer on foot patrol in City Park, 802 E. Main St., observed a man with an open container of alcohol. The officer arrested the man on an active warrant and transported him to Southwest Memorial Hospital for a medical clearance. The man was then booked in Montezuma County Detention Center on an active warrant, an open container of alcohol and possession of alcohol in a park.
9:11 p.m. Several police officers were called to a domestic disturbance in an apartment complex in the 400 block of Ash Street. A man was arrested after pointing a gun at officers and pointing it in his mouth. The man appeared to pull the trigger several times, but the gun apparently malfunctioned. The domestic disturbance was believed to have started over a dispute about beer, fast food and relationship issues between two brothers and their girlfriends. In addition, a child was in the apartment. The man who pointed the gun at officers was tased several times. The man was arrested for domestic violence, harassment, child abuse and violation of a protection order. He also was served an outstanding warrant. Police officers recommended a charge of prohibited use of a weapon. After being medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, the man was transported to Montezuma County Detention Center.
Friday, June 28
7:24 p.m. An officer on patrol near Burger King, 520 W. Main St., recognized a man with an active warrant walking in the area. The man fled on foot but was apprehended in the Salvation Army parking lot. He was booked in Montezuma County Detention Center on a misdemeanor arrest warrant, resisting arrest and interfering with an officer and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Saturday, June 29
10 a.m. An officer on patrol stopped a vehicle with a cracked windshield in the 700 block of South Oak Street. The driver was arrested on an active warrant from the Colorado State Patrol. His license was also revoked. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
8:47 p.m. An officer was called to the 700 block of East Third Street about a minor traffic accident. A woman reported a neighbor had backed into her parked car. The man was issued a summons for unsafe backing.
9:40 p.m. An officer was called to Lotsa Pasta That’za Pizza, 439 E. Main St., about an intoxicated customer. A man, who confronted a couple in the parking lot and wanted to fight, was arrested on suspicion of harassment and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Sunday, June 30
5:19 p.m. An officer was called to the 300 block of Elm Street about a domestic violence incident in progress. A man was reported to be breaking things in the house with a bat. The man, who was intoxicated, was arrested for third-degree assault and domestic violence. At Southwest Memorial Hospital, where he was taken for a medical clearance, he became combative with hospital staff. The man was transported to Montezuma County Detention Center and issued a summons for on charges of criminal mischief and domestic violence.
Monday, July 1
6:29 p.m. An officer was leaving the Speedway, 921 E. Main St., when he observed a man staring down customers in the convenience store as if he wanted to fight them. He was also unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. The man walked through traffic to City Park, where he appeared to be angry with people in the park. A man on a bicycle told police he was angry because no one would share a cigarette with him. When approached by police, the man became angry, eventually resisting arrest. Several officers arrived to assist, and the man was eventually tased. After being arrested for violating a protection order and resisting arrest, the man was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for a medical clearance but was belligerent to hospital personnel. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
10:37 p.m. An officer was on patrol in the Walmart parking lot, 1835 E. Main St., when he observed a man with an active warrant enter the store. During the arrest, the man became combative and refused to follow commands. He was carried to the passenger side of the patrol vehicle and forced inside. While being transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital, he began kicking the patrol door. At the hospital, the man was restrained. He was issued a summons for trespassing and resisting arrest and left in custody Montezuma County Detention Center.
Tuesday, July 2
7:40 a.m. An officer took a report about a minor traffic crash at a stop sign in the 2400 block of Trinity Avenue.
9:33 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 800 block of Chestnut Street about a disturbance. When he arrived, a man was being held down by another man. When the officer arrived, a woman said the restrained man had been fighting with her. The man, smelling of alcohol and yelling, was arrested. He was on pretrial release for misdemeanor offenses. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center for violating bond conditions.
Wednesday, July 3
10:16 a.m. An officer was called to Super 8 Motel about a recovered vehicle that had been reported stolen. The woman who called had reported the vehicle stolen said her boyfriend and a friend had driven it up from Albuquerque, and she told them not to drive it to her in Utah because it was stolen. The woman was waiting at the Super 8 when the officer arrived. She declined to name her boyfriend but named her boyfriend’s friend.
2:37 p.m. An officer was in the 700 block of East Montezuma Avenue when he recognized a man who was walking who had an active warrant. The man was arrested for violating bond conditions for a felony offense and for violating a protection order banning the consumption of alcohol. He was left custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
3:11 p.m. An officer took details of a minor two-vehicle collision in the parking lot of City Market, 508 E. Main St.
5:47 p.m. An officer was called to Auto Zone, 1222 E. Main St., about a possible harassment. A man admitted pushing down a man who allegedly said inappropriate things about his family in the Auto Zone, and he was issued a summons for harassment.
Thursday, July 4
12:34 a.m. An officer was driving around the block on a burglary call in the 800 block of Chestnut Street when he encountered two men in the middle of the street. One man was cursing. The men were visibly intoxicated. One man was sent home. The other man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
9:11 a.m. An officer was called to City Market, 506 E. Market St., about a minor collision in the parking lot. A tractor towing farm equipment had damaged the awning above the gas pumps. The officer filled a report and worked with the parties about reporting the incident reported to corporate and insurance offices.
9:46 a.m. An officer on patrol in the 800 block of East Main Avenue recognized a man who had an active warrant out for his arrest. The officer arrested the man and left him in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
2:58 p.m. An officer on patrol in the 500 block of North Elm Street recognized a man who had an active warrant out for his arrest. The officer arrested the man and left him in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
6:20 p.m. An officer was called to the duck pond in Centennial Park about an intoxicated man. A man was throwing things out of a cooler at people who were gathering for the Fourth of July fireworks display. He also was accusing family members of not loving him. The man was cursing at people and had an open container of alcohol. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Friday, July 5
11:03 p.m. An officer on patrol witnessed a Chevrolet sedan run a red light at South Chestnut Street and West Main Street. The vehicle was stopped in the 800 block of South Broadway. The driver declined to give his name. A fingerprint check identified the driver and reported that his Utah driver’s license was revoked. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center. A passenger was arrested for disturbing the peace and for having an open container of alcohol.
Saturday, July 6
8:52 p.m. An officer in the 400 block of South Beech Street about a violation of a protection order arrested a woman for violating a protection order and left her in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
