La Plata County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Friday night shooting of a 49-year-old man in the 8000 block of U.S. Highway 550, about eight miles north of the New Mexico line.
Sgt. Steve Reiter with the Sheriff’s Office said no one has been arrested in the shooting, but one man was taken to La Plata County Jail on Detox refusal hold and was released after he was sober.
Several people were present during the shooting, and the two principals in the shooting were both adult men, he said. The Sheriff’s Office has identified all people present during the shooting, but it is not currently releasing their names, Reiter said.
Reiter said he did not know details about the severity of the injury of the man shot in the incident, but the man was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Reiter said further details are not being released pending an active investigation.
